Outreach workshops create the opportunity for an artist to work with young people looking at issues that effect health and well being in a creative way.

healthy arts will endeavour to find a creative activity around the needs and interests of the participants, and is aimed at the most vulnerable of young people. In the past young people were involved in drama sessions, written poems, created murals, produced leaflets and learnt dance and relaxation techniques. The workshops aim to raise the self-esteem and give a sense of achievement to young people.

Previous Workshops & Workshop Leaders:
  • Daniel Williams a creative writing and drama workshop leader who worked with young men on the ISSP programme to produce a leaflet on mental health for other young men. He has also produced creative workshops with young asylum seekers in Manchester and young women from Kensington Youth Inclusion programme.

  • Paula Simms ran drama and dance workshops with young women on an alternative informal education programme at St Helens YWCA who have been excluded from mainstream education. They created a dance and drama performance to show their parents and teachers how much they had achieved on the programme.

  • Keiran Gorman from Zap graffiti has worked with groups from West Cheshire Youth Service and Weston Spirit to create stunning visual artwork looking at a variety of issues.

  • Photographer Alexander Wolkowicz has worked with young parents from Sure Start Plus, Connexions, Forum Housing and Walton Young Parents to create interesting and evocative images that look at raising self-esteem and challenging stereotypes.

Working alongside a professional artist, young pople of the Ellesmere Port area explored issues around mental health before creating a mural that would promote mental health awareness and aid in creating a more welcoming appearance to The Hub @ Ellesmere Port.
