emerging artists

hope street's internationally-renowned Emerging Artists Programme will start in June 2012 and will run for 6 months.
This is a full-time programme that provides participants with the opportunity to work with some of the world's leading artists.

Events to be produced this year include a site-specific performance in partnership with Tate Liverpool, inspired by the Monet, Turner, Twombly exhibition; 'Innovasion 2', in partnership with Liverpool Biennial and taking place in Everton; and a mini-Olympics, as part of this year's Hope Street Feast.

hope street provides opportunities for internationally-renowned artists to push the boundaries of their own work, take risks and produce innovative site-specific performance; all of these projects provide opportunities for emerging artists to be at the centre of the work.

In recent years projects have been led by Hilary Westlake, Volksrekorders, Mark Murphy, Tmesis, Cocoloco, Montserrat Gili, Amanda Stoodley, Mischief La Bas and Dusko Sibl.

In addition to creating spectacular performances, all of our emerging artists participate in Business Matters – a programme that provides the knowledge, skills and experience necessary for working in the arts and cultural industries. This includes:

  • producing a career-orientated biography and CV
  • building up a portfolio of work
  • meeting key personnel in the majority of the city’s cultural organisations
  • gaining knowledge about job application processes
  • attending a mock interview/audition with a professional artist/organisation
  • raising their awareness of the arts industry through networking with COoL & LARC organisations
  • attending seminars including Arts Council England, Culture Liverpool and Equity.

This is what hope street's emerging artists have to say about the programme…
